Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
